About Vicky
Cape Town-based Vicky Coates launched her company, Capstone Consulting, in 2000. Since then she has designed, developed and presented several programmes on leadership, emotional intelligence, customer service, change management, team work, facilitation and coaching. Her work is based on extensive research into the field of human development and transformation, but her material is infused and enlivened by her enthusiasm, passion and commitment to principles that underpin her personal life. Authenticity and integrity are the hallmarks of her training programmes.
Vicky was born and raised in Zimbabwe. She travelled widely as a young adult and spent some years in the United States before coming to South Africa to run leadership and self-development programmes for the RALI Programme (Responsible Action and Leadership Initiative) in Cape Town. Between 1995 and 2000 she worked in partnership with a training consultancy, Renaissance Business Associates (RBA), spearheading their customer care division. During this time she developed RBA’s flagship customer service programme, I CARE …I CAN, which is now her own, highly successful product. Building on what is best in the human spirit, it results in profound shifts in awareness across all levels of the company from staff to the top rung of management.
The focus of Vicky’s leadership training is always to inspire participants to identify their own strengths and to bring a fresh sense of purpose to their work. She has a deep respect for truth and has been searching it out in the teachings of various spiritual disciplines and training courses since her teens. It is now her conviction that, in order for training to be truly effective, it must include a dimension that raises awareness and challenges archaic personal mental models of the way the world works.
‘It is my view that the world is an outside reflection of an inside condition’ she says. ‘If the world is to change, people have to change. There are no short cuts. We cannot solve problems with the same level of awareness that created them. People learn not only by receiving information but also by witnessing role models in action. I think we should spend more time looking at the lost art of how to live passionately and with integrity. Our attitudes can either create or destroy our health, our relationships and our environment. Every moment we choose to add value, we are shaping the future.’
In 1998 Vicky was a delegate to the Conference on Business and Consciousness in Acapulco, Mexico. In 1999 she returned as a speaker on The Art and Science of Foundational Leadership and joined an international line-up of leading edge thinkers in the field of organisational development. She continues to refresh her skills by reading books on the topic and taking appropriate courses in leadership development.
Her powerful new curriculum The Leaders Series focuses on the essential skills needed to engage with the on-going introspective work of transforming oneself as well as cultivating the necessary skills to work and develop others. Her special interest is in coaching individuals, small groups and companies who want to redefine their core values and principles and are deeply committed to making a difference.
She achieves this goal with humour, wisdom and a clarity of purpose. Seeing individuals and her clients take ownership of their unique significance and gift of leadership fuels her dedication to creating a climate for transformation and the development of potent and effective role models in the world.
